The Mega Man Effect for Windows
It is finally here, the Mega Man Effect for Windows. Inspired by Mike Zornek's original Mega Man Effect for OSX. Described in Mike's own words:
The Mega Man Effect is an application that emulates an effect seen in the classic NES game Mega Man 2. When you launch an OS X Windows application, the screen goes dark, stars sweep the night sky and your application's icon is presented in a blue letter box bar with a cheesy 8-bit music introduction.
For anyone who forgets what the boss intro looks like, here's a reminder. To the right is a screenshot of what the effect looks like before starting up Warcraft III.
To set it up, download and run the installer. After you install it, find "Mega Man Effect" in your start menu, run it, turn it on, and close the window. Every application you run will be introduced in full 8-bit glory. Rerun the program to turn the effect off.

Known Issues
Only 32 bit applications are introduced on 64 bit Windows.
Icon transparency isn't perfect if your desktop bit depth is 16 bit.
Some icons are blurry. I should try something like hq4x.
